Saudi airports expansion plan underway

March 1: State news agency SPA reports that Saudi Arabia is spending 2.5 billion riyals (€490 million) expanding the country’s airports.
Twenty-three airports are involved including the creation of a new airport in Taif, located in the Western mountains, and expansion of Najran airport in the south.
King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) at Jeddah is being expanded in three phases: the first includes construction of a new 400,000m2 terminal complex replacing the existing North and South Terminals; construction of 42 contact gates with air bridges; construction of a new control tower, communications and Navigations System; construction of new elevated access roads, interchanges and landside developments, new taxiways and major new utilities networks. Construction is underway and expected to be completed in 2012
