Virgin America expands fleet

March 19: Virgin America says it is to add six aircraft to its fleet this year and three more in the first quarter of 2011 to service new routes between Orlando International Airport in Florida and Toronto Pearson, Los Angeles and San Francisco International Airports from June and August respectively. To enable the Toronto service to start the airline also announced that it will end service to John Wayne Airport in California from May 26.
Virgin America will be file an application with the US Department of Transportation seeking authority to fly to Toronto as it will be the airline’s first international destination.
The new aircraft are reported by the Wall Street Journal to be leased Airbus A320s.
