Infraero starts runway extension at Rio de Janeiro International

Infraero has begun working on the extension in the runway of the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro Antonio Carlos Jobim.
The runway´s current width of 45 metres will be extended to 60 metres at the end of the works, which will be completed in 24 months, according to information from the state airport management company.
The investment of R$ 64.55 million includes the rehabilitation of taxiways and aircraft systems in the pavement.
The changes will expand the infrastructure of the airport to receive larges aircraft such as the A380, according to Director of Engineering Infraero, Jaime Parreira.
Since the works have been authorized by Infraero on October 28th, equipment and manpower are being mobilized.
“The forecast is that there is no impact on flights, since the execution of works was discussed with the airlines operating in the Galleon,” Parreira said.
