STRIKE: Controllers’ industrial action enters its second day

30 10.15Air traffic in France is being badly affected by a controllers’s strike in several European countries, with two out of three flights either delayed or cancelled.

Slovakian and Italian air traffic controllers are also striking for short periods during the day, while their colleagues in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Portugal, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Greece will take measures such as performing only basic contracted duties in protest at future restructuring by the European Commission.


French air traffic control has already called on airlines to cancel 20 per cent of their flights after strike action began at midnight and is due to last for 24 hours until 0.500 GMT on Friday.

The cuts in traffic will mostly affect Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly Airports, as well as flights to low-cost airport, Beauvais.

Passengers travelling Thursday to and from France and through French airspace have been advised to contact their carriers for more information.
