Malaysia ‘almost certain’ wreckage is B777

Plane wreckage found washed up on La Reunion island in the southern Indian Ocean almost certainly belongs to a Boeing 777, and could possibly be the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370, according to Malaysia’s deputy transport minister.

“It is almost certain that the flaperon is from a Boeing 777 aircraft. Our chief investigator here told me this,” deputy transport minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said.

The two-metre-long piece of wreckage was found on the small island east of Madagascar, thousands of kilometres from where MH370 is thought to have crashed.

Oceanographers said it was plausible that debris from the missing flight could have been swept near Africa by sweeping currents.
