FAA signals STC changes to ADS-B systems

The United States Federal Aviation Administration has updated guidance on installing ADS-B out systems, which could allow avionics shops to install ADS-B equipment on aircraft without having to obtain a new supplemental type certificate (STC), according to AIN.

According to Bill Stone, Garmin senior business development manager, the new policy which was detailed in a March 2 memo “significantly reduces cost, downtime and uncertainty about how long the aircraft is going to be down.”
