Satellite-based tracking on the way for NZ

Airways New Zealand has secured a supplier of ground infrastructure for its Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADSB) network, a satellite-supported system designed to replace radar as New Zealand’s main aircraft tracking technology.

Airways New Zealand tells Air Traffic Management that this new investment is designed to supplement ground based ADS-B for the NZ FIR rather than replace or dispense with a space-based solution offered by a provider such as Aireon.

“We are still in discussion but still haven’t seen a Pacific based model to extend their Atlantic designed offering just yet,” the company said.
